ASUU queries four professors for sabotaging strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has queried four professors of Enugu State University of Science and Technology for sabotaging its ongoing nationwide strike.

Prof. Agu Gab Agu, Chairman of ESUT-ASUU, revealed this on Monday, after a congress of the local union in Enugu.

The captain of the Sand Eagles, Isiaka Olawale believes the Nigerian team still has the distinct advantage above other teams billed to feature in the 2013 Copa Lagos beach soccer competition.

He said, “We are able to play against team because our players are both skillful and strong. The most important thing is that we are playing to win.”

The Nigerians are two-time champions and their attempt to secure a third consecutive title in December can only be thwarted by the other three teams. The third edition of Copa Lagos kicks off on December 15 with teams from Nigeria, Senegal, Germany and Lebanon competing for the coveted trophy.

NAMA imposes $3,000 fee on non-scheduled airline operators

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency has announced that airlines involved in non-scheduled operations will pay up to $3,000 as fees.

This was contained in ‘aeronautical information’ circular for all airlines involved in non-scheduled flight operations.

NAMA said in the circular, which was signed by its spokesperson, Mr. Supo Atobatele, that the commencement of the new operational charges took effect from Monday, November 18, 2013.

Egypt with a mountain to climb v Ghana

With virtually one foot in Brazil, Ghana will be looking to seal their qualification to the 2014 Fifa World Cup when they face Egypt in Cairo on Tuesday evening in their second leg playoff match. Kickoff is at 6pm.
The Ghanaians demolished Egypt 6-1 in their first leg qualifier in Ghana a month ago, a result that the Pharaohs will have to match by at least a score of 5-0 to prevail on away goals.
Egypt knows the mountain of the task ahead and prepared for the clash with a 2-0 win over Zambia at the Air Defence Stadium last week.
Pharaohs are relying on eleven Al Ahly players who won the CAF Champions League at the expense of Orlando Pirates.

The Bob Bradley coached side have played all of their home fixtures behind closed doors because of security concerns in the country. The match against the Black Stars will be their first outing in the qualifiers in front of their home fans.

England expecting tough task v Germany

England manager Roy Hodgson says his side expect a tough task when they take on Germany at Wembley on Tuesday, looking for a first home win over their old rivals since 1975. Kickoff is at 10pm.
A defeat by Chile at Wembley on Friday ended a 10-match unbeaten run and Hodgson says Germany will be a good test of where England are with seven months to go until the World Cup Finals in Brazil.
"Both of us will be looking to make certain that we find the right team, the right formation and the right way of playing before we come to Brazil," Hodgson said of himself and Germany coach Joachim Loew.
"I don't think friendlies should ever be used as an enormous barometer of how good or poor (a team) is at any moment in time.

New Zealand coach Ricki Herbert on Tuesday insisted his team's World Cup intercontinental play-off against Mexico was not over, despite trailing 5-1 after the first leg.
Herbert, known for his dour defensive tactics, said the All Whites would take a positive mindset into Wednesday's return leg in Wellington and chase the 4-0 scoreline needed to progress to Brazil.
The 52-year-old has been under pressure since last week's mauling at Mexico City's Azteca Stadium, which was dubbed "The Ricki Horror Show" in New Zealand media, and he announced Tuesday he would quit at the end of the World Cup campaign.

Algeria and Burkina Faso will look to seal their qualification for the 2014 Fifa World Cup when they meet in the second leg of their playoff tie at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida on Tuesday. Kickoff is at 8:15pm.
The first leg, which was played in Ouagadougou a month ago, ended 3-2 in favour of the Stallions and the West African side heads into this leg with the slight advantage of knowing that any draw will be good enough to send them to Brazil.

Talismanic forward Alain Traore has returned from injury to join a potent attack which includes the likes of Jonathan Pitroipa and Aristide Bance, but Belgian coach Paul Put is counting on the whole team to clinch their first-ever World Cup qualification.

Miguel Herrera has promised more scintillating football in Mexico's World Cup intercontinental play-off against New Zealand, as he looks to land the national coaching role on a permanent basis.
El Tri are already virtually assured a spot at next year's tournament in Brazil after trouncing the All Whites 5-1 in Mexico City, but Herrera said he would not shut up shop in the return leg in Wellington on Wednesday.

Rather than emphasise defence, Herrera named an unchanged side from the one which delivered a high tempo passing game last week that helped restore the faith of Mexican fans after a dismal qualifying campaign.
"We're here to win," he told reporters in the New Zealand capital through an interpreter.
"We know that New Zealand need to come and attack us but we're going to play exactly the same as we did in Mexico.
