Eaglets coach Manu Garba and his assistant Nduka Ugbade believe the
team are in the right frame of mind going into Tuesday’s FIFA U-17
World Cup semifinal match against Sweden in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Both teams battled to a 3-3 draw in
their first meeting in the tournament in Al Ain City on October 22 but
the duo insist the story will be different this time around.
“I want to congratulate the boys for a
job well done against Uruguay and Sweden should be ready for our
fireworks in the semifinal on Tuesday,” Manu told reporters on Sunday.
“We have learned so much playing against Sweden the last time, but we shall be ready for them this time around.”
The Eaglets have scored 20 goals in
five matches to emerge as the best attacking side at the championship
and China ’85 FIFA Under-17 World Cup winner Ugbade says they will be
out to beat Sweden to maintain their record.
“They (Eaglets) have been doing well
and we are also concentrating on ensuring that they are physiologically
fit to play because that is also an important aspect of their training,”
the News Agency of Nigeria quoted the former Super Eagles defender as saying on Sunday.
“Constant talking to the players, both
collectively and individually, has also helped. They are young lads and
need to be constantly guided.
“Other African countries are now looking up to Nigeria, as the only African team left in the competition, to win the event.”
