NDLEA arrests 251 with 2,648kg of illicit drugs in Jigawa



The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Jigawa on Thursday said it had arrested 251 suspects with 2.7 tones (2,648kg) of illicit drugs between January and December 2013.
The Commander of the Agency, Ibrahim Abdul, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse.
Abdul said 61 of the suspects had been convicted; 77 standing trial, while 113 were in the Agency’s custody for counselling

He said the drugs included Indian hemp, rubber solution, diazepam, Extol5, pentazocine, tramol and other hard substances.
The commander warned those involved in the illegal business to desist as the agency would continue to hunt for them.
Abdul commended other security agencies in the state for their support in ensuring a drug-free society.
The commander also commended the state government for assisting the agency in its effort to tackle illicit use of drugs and trafficking.
