At least 25 people were killed in regime air raids on rebel districts of the northern city of Aleppo on Sunday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
They were killed when regime forces unleashed an aerial attack using explosive-laden barrels over the eastern Aleppo districts of Sakhur, Ard al-Hamra, Ansari and Haydariyeh, said Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman.
Fourteen children and an 18-year-old boy are among 25 people killed, he said updating an earlier toll, and warning that the toll could rise because many people were wounded, some in critical condition.

Don’t shy away from the stock market

’Nimi Akinkugbe
The stock market can seem intimidating for the inexperienced investor, but it needn’t be. Stocks are the basic units of ownership of a corporation. When you buy shares, you are buying part-ownership in a business. As the company grows, prospers and makes a profit, you could earn a dividend and enjoy capital appreciation. But if the company is not profitable, your shares depreciate in value and you could lose money.

Scientists improve human self-control through electrical brain stimulation

Scientists
If you have ever said or done the wrong thing at the wrong time, you should read this. Neuroscientists at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and the University of California, San Diego, have successfully demonstrated a technique to enhance a form of self-control through a novel form of brain stimulation.
Study participants were asked to perform a simple behavioral task that required the braking/slowing of action — inhibition — in the brain. In each participant, the researchers first identified the specific location for this brake in the prefrontal region of the brain. Next, they increased activity in this brain region using stimulation with brief and imperceptible electrical charges. This led to increased braking — a form of enhanced self-control.

World Cup: Odds Against Nigeria

Mikel in action
The odds are slim for Nigeria to win the 2014 World Cup – some pundits put it at 200/1, others 301/1. No one can blame the analysts for having little faith in the team, after all the Super Eagles have never gone beyond the second round of the competition even after making four appearances since 1994.
While teams like Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain and Italy are more favoured to win the tournament, it is a fact that only seeded teams have won the World Cup, except for the editions in 1954, 1958, 1970 and 1986.
