Barkhad Abdi A Limo Driver Who Makes All The Difference In Hollywood



The story of Barkhad Abdi, the guy who won the best supporting actor at the last BAFTA is from grass to grace, he was a former limo driver who was jailed twice previously with offences ranging from drugs possession to giving cops a fraudulent name before he landed a role in Captain Phillips, a role that has given him an Oscar nod and a win, though, he is no longer a limo driver, he has taken a day job after the movie as he await for another movie role.

The night before he was nominated in Oscar, he didn’t sleep well, with one movie, “Captain Phillips “ where he acted as a lead Somalia pirate opposite Tom Hanks, and ended with international recognition, with no training, he has become an inspiration to millions of people around the world.

Speaking on the red carpet, Abdi had praised Tom Hanks for helping him face his obstacles at the onset of the movie and also thanked director Paul Greengrass for believing in him before he believed in himself. After completing work on Captain Phillips. Abdi reportedly had taken a day job in a phone shop as he found it difficult to secure further roles.
Abdi was born in Mogadishu and moved to Minneapolis as a teen. He was at his room, watching TV until he was announced that he was going for Oscar. It was shocking, honestly, he said and was seen jumping up and down.
