Celtic on the hunt against Ajax

Football | Absa Premiership

Bloemfontein Celtic will aim for a third successive Absa Premiership win when they head over to Cape Town Stadium to face Ajax Cape Town on Wednesday evening, kick-off at 19h30.
Both outfits arrive into the midweek encounter off the back of several impressive results which leaves them delicately positioned on the league table.

Their recent turn of results, for both Ajax and Celtic, leaves them sitting equal on points with only goal difference allowing Siwelele (in ninth) to edge out the Urban Warriors on the log.
Ajax skipper Dominic Isaacs will face his former club for the first time since leaving them in August and he says the only focus on his mind is acquiring the three points.

“Every game we play to win. This game [against my former team] is nothing to get excited about, I just want the three points that is all,” says the former Kaizer Chiefs player.

“We don’t like talking about the other teams. We like concentrating on our own business. We have been watching videos of them and we have been planning according to it.
“We haven’t moved away from the way we play because we are playing at home. As I have said before, we plan to win all our home games.

“We never plan to play for a draw - we always want to pick up maximum points at home and that applies to the last two games coming up in this week.”

Still, despite their recent run of one loss in eight games, the Urban Warriors will know to tread carefully into the encounter knowing that Celtic have turned the corner from their run of four consecutive draws.
Ernst Middendorp’s side rubbished their stalemate-inflicted start to his tenure when they edged out Orlando Pirates and Golden Arrows with a 3-2 and 3-0 scoreline, respectively.

Phunya Sele Sele captain and defender, Thabo Nthethe, has encouraged his side to continue on the same road which has left their adversaries trembling at the thought of what Celtic will put out next.
“We come into this game after two good wins and now we have two away games. We have to pick up where we left off against Pirates and Arrows,” said the 29-year-old.

“We have to keep attacking so we can close the year on a big note - that will be great. It will help us move upwards and we know that a win always moves you up three for four places.

“We need to win versus Ajax because it will be a boost for us.”
Traditionally, history doesn’t bode well for Celtic when in the Mother City but this time Nthethe is desperate to write a new chronicle.

“It is always difficult against Ajax, especially away. Even when we play on our top form we usually just draw, most of the time we lose,” continued the stopper.
“We have to approach this game like the others. We want to win and our last two games have given us confidence.”
