City targets Swallows scalp

Football | Absa Premiership

Polokwane City will be looking to continue their upward movement on the Absa Premiership table when they travel to Soweto to face Moroka Swallows at the Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday evening, kick-off at 19h30.
City has been on an upward curve since the appointment of coach Boebie Solomons.
The Limpopo side were languishing at the foot of the table after the first few rounds of league action, but have produced good results of late.

Rise and Shine are placed 11th on the Absa Premiership log standings with 14 points from 13 matches so far.
If they beat Swallows by at least two goals they will break into the top half of the table for the first time this season.
City’s midfielder Galabwe Moyana says that the morale in their camp is at its highest since the team gained promotion to the Absa Premiership.

“The break that we have had in the last week and a half has helped us to prepare thoroughly for this encounter with Swallows,” said the player from Botswana.
“We are gunning for three points in this encounter. The fighting spirit in the team is very high and the boys are fired up to do battle.

“We have the belief that we can all do well this season after the bad start to our campaign.”
Swallows will be looking to end a bad run of results of late. The Dube Birds have lost their last two matches in a row (2-1 to log leaders Mameodi Sundowns and 1-0 at home to Bidvest Wits).
Zeca Marques’ side are placed seventh on the log with 18 points after 12 league matches.
Swallows captain Lefa Tsutsulupa hopes that they can pick up maximum points in their remaining two matches of the year, starting with the match against City.

“Everything depends on the last two games of the year. We need to at least get six or four points from those games to remain in touch with the leaders,” said the 33-year-old midfielder.

“If we do badly in those games then we might start the year outside the top half of the table.
“We don’t want to get carried away and start thinking about next year before these two remaining games.
“They (City) have been doing well lately, but we need the points.
“We are separated by six points from the log leaders and anything can happen in the next few games, that is the nature of the football.

“The positive thing is that we are still there with the leaders and we are targeting the remaining two games of the year to nicely position ourselves.”
This will be the first ever league meeting between the two sides after City were promoted to the top flight of South African football this season.
