Darren Fletcher Admits Lying To Teammates About Being Sick

Darren Fletcher had lied to his teammates in Manchester United when he discovered that he has a career threatening bowel condition called ulcerative colitis, his close friends knew though but he had to confess and made it known, currently, he is with another star, a sufferer and England rugby international Lewis Moody to launch United For Colitis, and create awareness for this health condition. Darren is healthy and is back with United to continue his career.
He said: ‘There are no guarantees with surgery but the surgeon was very confident that I would get back to a normal life and be a good husband and a good dad, all these factors. But deep down as well it was to get back to playing football because that was important as well.
Although people will tell you that’s the not most important thing, it’s always in your mind, no doubt about it.

He added ‘I’m very fortunate to be where I am. Surgery has enabled me to be back playing for Manchester United and feeling great. That’s difficult as well when there’s no known cure or reason why you get it. That’s difficult to deal with and accept, and that’s why we’re trying to raise awareness. You can be running to the toilet anywhere between 10 and 30 times a day without much time to get there, losing a lot of blood in the process as well. A number of times my blood inflammation markers were so high and you’re so weak that I ended up in hospital a couple of times on an IV drip.’
Fletcher and Moody will host the first United For Colitis event, a charity dinner at Old Trafford on March 27 that is being supported by Sir Alex Ferguson and many of United’s players to raise funds for Crohn’s and Colitis UK.
