Silver eye top spot

Football | Malawi

There is more than revenge at stake for Malawi TNM Super League defending champions Silver Strikers when they entertain stubborn rookies Evirom at Silver Stadium, Lilongwe on Sunday.
Evirom might be placed second from the bottom of the 15-member league on 20 points from 27 games, but they go down with an enviable record of having beaten the giants Silver 1-0 in the first round.
Captain Harold Zulu, who stepped forward to coolly score from the penalty spot, will be expected to lead the Blantyre minnows into this battle in Lilongwe.

But sadly, this is Evirom’s last game before they get relegated to the second tier Premier Division. The top league of Malawi is this weekend in one but final weekend.
For Silver, beating Evirom would not only be a matter of revenge but also present perfect timing as this will be the Bankers’ first time to top league.
Silver can displace from the top Mafco who are on bye this weekend.
Mafco have a game to wind up the season with 48 points, one point ahead of Silver whose other game will be against Mighty Wanderers.

Wanderers, who face Blantyre United today Saturday in Balaka Stadium, are sixth on 42 points and can as well be counted out of the championship race.
Wanderers' team manager Chiyembekezo Zidana told SuperSport.com that "the morale is not as high looking at the games other championship contenders have."

In other games, Kamuzu Barracks host Epac at Civo Stadium hoping to maintain or even better their current fourth place on 44 points and two games to go.
