CHAN: South Africa studying Eagles on DVDs

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi

South Africa coach Gordon Igesund is expecting a tough contest against the Super Eagles when they host the African champions at the African Nations Championship starting on Saturday. To this end, he has obtained DVDs on the Nigerians to study ahead of their encounter.
Both sides have met eight time in the past with the Super Eagles winning on six occasions and recording just one draw in their meetings.
South Africa and Nigeria, along with Mali and Mozambique make up Group A and are based in Cape Town.

“There are no easy games in international football and we know that Nigeria are going to have a formidable team here. We know that Mali is a physical team and a very good side and we know that Mozambique is no different. We are not expecting anything other than a tough tournament,” Igesund told supersport.com.
“It’s not going to be easy against Nigeria because they have about seven players in the squad that played in the 2013Africa Cup of Nations. So we do know those players well, as they won that tournament.
“But we’ll get to know more about the rest of their team as we go along. I’ve got people watching them and sending us DVDs’ so we can see the individual players.”
Igesund again highlighted the fact that he wants to keep momentum going and get his team used to winning matches.
“We want to create a winning mentality and make people happy. When we beat Spain we did it with an average age of just 24 and we are happy with that and want to build on that,” he said.
“It’s important to get the players winning games in order to create a winning mentality and so we need to build momentum and we can do that by winning this tournament.
“We are not over confident or arrogant, but we are hosting the tournament and are expecting to do well in it.”
